LAWN CARE UPDATE – MOWING LAWNS GUILT-FREE! The Outdoor Power Equipment Institute (OPEI) reported in a recent study that mowing your turfgrass can actually reduce your carbon footprint. The reason: Healthy trufgrass can capture up to four times more carbon for the air than is produced by the engine of a lawnmower. Dr. Ranajit Sahu, an independent enviromental and energy expert shows that maintained lawns store significant amounts of carbon – actually offsetting the enviromental impact of mowing. Kris Kiser, vice president of public affairs for OPEI said, “Mowing grass and pruning shrubs and trees keeps plants in a growing state. This, in turn, ensures that are actively pulling carbon dioxide – a greenhouse gas – from the air.” So, in other words; keeping our landscape maintained is not only nice to look at, but it is also good for the enviroment! Keep those lawn mowers going!
